1. What is the spell's incantation (Incendio) etymology?: In Latin, Incendio is the dative or ablative singular of incendium, "fire", and can mean "to fire" or "for fire", "by fire" or "with fire". Thus, the incantation is a way of calling upon fire to burn a desired object, since the spell caster wills harm to be done to an object "by fire."
2. Name other spells which have similar effects to the Fire-Making Spell. Bluebell Flames (better known as Cold Fire), is similar to the Fire-Making Spell. The difference is that the Fire-Making Spell makes red flames, and Bluebell Flames makes blue flames. The blue flames produced are described as being bright blue, waterproof, and radiating heat only to objects held directly above it. The fire can also be touched, penetrated and held without it burning the holder, though it is known to burn materials such as clothing and plants.
3. Name a few known practitioners of the spell. Authur Weasley used this spell in 1994, to light the Dursley's fireplace. Thorfinn Rowle used this spell to set fire to Hagrid's cabin. Hermione Granger used this spell to attempt to burn Salazar Slytherin's locket, and Harry Potter himself tried to destroy the same locket, proforming the spell non-verbally. There are other practitoners that how the spell was used is unknown, like Colin Creevey, Neville Longbottom, Ron Weasley, George Weasley, and Ponoma Sprout.
BONUS. In which situations can the spell come in handy? The spell is very handy among the wizarding population because you can ignite the fireplace, and set fire to pudding and other foods. But, you can cause great damage with this spell, so use the spell with caution. | |
