Platypuses or Platypi? (Seren)

Jack had managed to evade his family for a few hours while they went about their magical shopping spree. Rather than wander aimlessly around Diagon Alley by himself, Jack had escaped the place completely and managed to find a football game to join in the park. Unfortunately, that was a while ago, and now he had to make his way back into the crowded street and find his siblings and parents again. It didn't take him long to find his way back, despite the fact that he wasn't exactly rushing, and soon he was pushing his way through the crowds in search of a familiar face. Where would his family be?

Further down the street, on his right, was that weird pet store where his sisters had bought their owls. If he was going to have to check in all the stores, that was as good a place as any to start - he'd had to drag Lyra away from it last year. So he made his way in that direction and pushed the door open, letting himself inside. He didn't see his sisters immediately, but there was still the chance that they'd be there. Or the chance that he'd show up. So Jack decided to spend a few minutes there at least.

With nothing better to do, he made his way around the store looking at the animals. Jack couldn't understand why wizards had to have such weird animals. Owls and dancing mice and - Platypuses? Platypi? Okay, it didn't really matter what their plural form was. What mattered was the fact that there were a bunch of them in a fenced in area over in the corner! Jack had never seen a platypus in real life before, and they were definitely the weirdest things ever. While he was watching, one of them approached him. And it seemed nice, so Jack reached down over the enclosure fence toward it. Platypi were nice, right? Apparently not, because the moment Jack's hand was within reach, the stupid thing clamped onto it. "Hey!" Jack exclaimed, more in surprise than pain, and tried to snatch his hand away. Unfortunately, the thing had a decent grip, and Jack panicked momentarily and struggled against it. He had to shake his arm pretty hard to dislodge the animal, and when he did, he stumbled backward and tripped, falling awkwardly on the ground. But at least he was safe from the man eating platypus that had almost devoured his entire hand!
