Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS)   Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS) EmptySat Mar 21, 2015 3:59 pm

Freja was mainly excited, but a little worried, for her first class. Although it was Elixirs - just like when her mother made her bake with her, right? - she didn't really think she'd be any good at it. Even though it seemed like just throwing stuff in a big bowl and mixing it around, she'd spent last night in the common room and everywhere she looked, there were super intelligent looking first years reading through their textbooks and looking like they knew what they were doing with this magic stuff. Freja hadn't thought that they needed to get ahead on classwork before they even started school, and she would be far too lazy to anyway. So she hadn't prepared at all, but she was on her way to her first class, where she would probably make a terrible first impression because she didn't have any general knowledge and reading was boring.

When she arrived at the place she thought was the classroom, though, she was a bit surprised to see that nobody else was here yet. Was it the right place? Yes, it must be, the big board said so. Shrugging a little to herself, she went to sit towards the back and wait patiently, like instructed. If she sat in exactly the right place, she'd manage to not be noticed at all by the teacher, which was exactly what she was aiming for. Looking again at the board, she flicked her textbook over to the right page, deciding to have a quick look at it while she had the opportunity.

Martha ambled into the classroom, textbook tucked under her arm. It looked like she was a bit early, but that could only work in her favor, she supposed. She slid into a seat near the front and flipped to the potion they were apparently reading up on. Not that she didn't already know how to make it, of course. She'd practiced several of the potions in the book at home and a few she knew from Salem. Honestly, she didn't mind reviewing ones she already knew, especially since it made her look smart when she made it right the first time. While Martha would readily admit to being far from academically minded, being among the top of a class was one way of climbing the social ladder, and Martha would also readily admit to wanting to climb the social ladder.
Sleeping Draught, though? That one she'd learned fairly early, and employed on a regular basis. She usually slipped a bit of it into her grandparents' wine before they went to bed just so she could sneak out for a bit without waking them. Not that she ever did much when she snuck out, but the freedom she felt, however fleeting, was worth any sleep lost. Typically, she slipped into a pub for a hot cocoa before heading home. So far, both Nana and Grandfather seemed oblivious to her antics and Martha greatly hoped things stayed that way.

Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS)   Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS) EmptySat Mar 21, 2015 4:52 pm

Symona was glad to be back at Durmstrang again. At least she had something interesting to do here, rather than keeping being home all day, waiting for her mum to return home, reading and doing homework. Maybe watch so TV and be on the computer. She had began to see what an interesting thing the Internet seemed to be - when she was a kid, she despised it and saw it as a waste of time. But now she liked it more, though she never believed anything she had read on it. More likely, she'd use it to see things she likes to watch on the TV. Like Brains Games or None of the Above from National Geographic. Doctor Who also seemed to grab her interest, amazingly. But besides this nice entertainments of life, her summer vacation was full of reading. Reading some random book from the library, reading her subject books for her next year at Durmstrang, reading the books that she had missed for the year at Bulgaria... Anything! And perfecting her homework, of course. Who would expect something else from Symona?

Today she had Elixirs. She was pretty exited to see this lesson. Last time she had done very good with her potion, though she did embarrass herself when she decided to give her potion while speaking in Bulgarian. Usually she wasn't one to make mistakes, let alone such a foolish one. But sometimes public speaking wasn't her strong sides, as it technically could be considered as socializing. And one of the things that the girl sucked greatly as, was the art of being social with idiots and other people. The girl pretty much divided the world into three different people - idiots, people who deserve her attention and other people. Wait, four. Idiots, People who deserve her attention, Other people and Oddmund Hansen. Because, although he wasn't too bright, he still wasn't that of an idiot, plus she talked with him, so she couldn't put him in other people. And he didn't really deserve her attention, he just walked into her room in the boat.

Quickly walking to Elixirs, she had slipped slightly, which slightly made her books to fall from her bag. She heard some giggles behind her. Ugh. Great. Again an object of jokes. They began to run away and she quickly noticed the greenish color on their ties. Expected. Someone from her house wouldn't be so reackless. Trying to collect her books, she tried to see how they had pranked her. But she couldn't see anything. Did they use magic? Probably. Standing up, she ran now to the classroom. She won't be first this time... Sucks... Soon she arrived at the room and walked in. Well, it wasn't too bad - she was second. Plus, the teacher wasn't in! So it didn't matter! Sometimes luck was with her... Sometimes. She walked up to the front of the room and sat on the first row of desks, like every single time, in every class she goes in. She read the board. She knew this stuff!

Kathrine entered the classroom with her book bag over her shoulder and looked around. The room was not yet full, and she couldn’t see someone who appeared to be a teacher present yet either. But she did notice the note on the board and so she chewed her lip for a moment before finding a place to sit by herself. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to sit near anybody who was present yet, but more because she didn’t really know anyone and she liked to be able to focus on the lesson over introductions.

Though she wondered briefly where the professor might be, she didn’t allow herself to dwell on the thought for too long. For one, it would be unlikely for her to be able to guess and secondly she figured that it didn’t really make a difference to her anyway. If no professor turned up at all, however, she would probably be a little put out. Classes were one of the things that she was most looking forward to about finally heading of to school, and not being able to participate in one at that time would have been disappointing.

Taking out a writing book and pen, she waited for the teacher to join the class.

Serafina walked into the room, almost too late, as usual. She had her typical schoolgirl robes on, adorned with accessories. She was a third year, which meant she was starting to get somewhere in life. Her body was developing and she was starting to become her own person. She was sorta tired, and dragged a little, but nonetheless, her usual sly smile was painted across her face.

She hated waking up early for class but how else was she expected to pass? She groaned at the thought of sitting through a lecture, but finally, she had gotten up and gotten ready. She now, sat at a desk in the Elixirs room, getting ready to learn something that sounded vaguely familiar. She had recognised the Martha girl, but all of these other faces were new. She wasn't very fond of new people but what exactly could she do about it? She stared off to space and waited for the professor to walk in.

She thought about shopping in France over the summer. She'd get to buy all the new things before they even hit Norway stores. She'd see all the amazing sights, that anyone who lived in a frozen wasteland would be jealous off and most importantly, French boys, ooh la la. She smiled at the thought before her thoughts were interrupted by some not-so-hot professor.

Carmen walked towards the Elixirs classroom. She wasn't sure what to wait for this lesson so much right now. She liked potions aka elixirs but she wasn't that good in them for sure. She knew how to do them but if she does them right was other thing already. Girl soon arrived to the classroom.

She noticed that professor wasn't yet here. She knew just one girl from this classroom right now. Others she have seen just around here and there but had no idea about their names or so. She smiled at all of them and then walked back at classroom where she did take a seat once again. She looked at Board and saw what they will learn today.

Girl took a lessons need stuff out from bag and began to wait professor to arrive so they could start with lesson for today. Waiting was boring so she just began to draw something on her sketchbook what she had also taken from her bag. It seemed like some kind of flower for sure.

Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS)   Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS) EmptyThu Mar 26, 2015 9:16 pm

Having had a mini crisis when he'd overslept, missing breakfast, and then been unable to find a pair of socks, Fin wasn't in his class early, waiting for the students to arrive, as he usually was. He wasn't late, and he already had the room set up exactly as he wanted it, with the board written neatly on, but the students would just have to go in and wait for him, although probably not for long, since he would arrive exactly on time to start the lesson. That did mean there was no excuse for lateness or anything, and since he was in a bad mood because of his inconvenient start to the day, without his morning black coffee, he wasn't going to be lenient with students. Fin imagined, as thick as they all often seemed to be, there would be many points taken away and not so many given.

When he arrived into the classroom, he slammed the door shut and headed to the front of the room to start the class as soon as possible. Today he wasn't going to waste time asking pointless questions - the potion may take a while to brew. "I assume most of you are intelligent enough to work out what a Sleeping Draught does. If not, refer to your textbook," Fin stated emotionlessly. "Get started as soon as possible. The instructions are also in the textbook. And don't rush." Many students had made that mistake last term, like the Masterson boy or whatever he was called. It only made the potion turn awful.

Instructions:

ooc - don't do it all in one post, at least try and drag it out to two Razz

PostSubject: Re: Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS)   Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS) EmptyThu Mar 26, 2015 10:47 pm

Of course she was intelligent enough to work out what a Sleeping Draught did. She'd brewed it enough times. She did have to admire his blunt nature, though. But that was probably because the potion took a bit of time to brew. Sighing, she flipped through the book to the recipe. Not that she needed it, but she didn't want to show off that much.
With a bored sigh, she tossed some wormwood in her mortar and crushed it with practiced ease. It was always best to make sure everything was chopped, juiced or crushed as necessary before adding anything. Unless the directions explicitly stated otherwise. So, she began chopping her valerian finely with the expert knife skills of someone well versed with sharp utensils.
She began humming to herself as she juiced her flobberworm into a cup and made sure to discard anything unused. Leaving waste on the work space only let to accidents better avoided. There was something therapeutic in brewing potions, a calming sort of complexity. But this one, this one she had a routine down for. Practiced movements ingrained into her muscles over months of repeated use. So this, this was easy. This was soothing and she could feel herself falling into a sort of trance. And then it hit her: she could practice meditation while brewing this potion. The movements were so ingrained into her person that she barely had to think about what she was doing. Perfect.

Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS)   Elixirs Lesson One (ALL YEARS) EmptyTue Apr 14, 2015 7:37 pm

Corvin liked magic and making elixirs that could do anything..well pretty much anything was pretty cool. After gathering the things from his room he might need he headed down into the dungeons to where he was most likely going to be late. Dammit he had taken too long trying to get his stuff. He entered the class room just a little out of breathe and scurried to a seat in the back of the room. Looking around he saw a few people he knew and then looked up at the front of the room to see what they would be learning today.

Looking in his book he started by pulling out what he needed and then organizing everything to where it would be easy access.

1. Crush the wormwood, add to cauldron. Stir slowly.
2. Chop the valerian, add to cauldron, and apply a high heat.
3. Juice your Flobberworm and add its thick mucus to your cauldron.

Putting the wormwood in a pestal and began to grind it to a pulp. It didn't look like it would be a hard potion to make he thought as he laid the next ingredient out and started chopping it up. Adding that to the mixture of wormwood he started to smash the flobberworm. It was really gross and it made him gag as he picked up the snot-like mucus and added it to the cauldron.
