| Aisha had been working non-stop without a break for the past four hours and she hadn't eaten breakfast that morning, so she decided now was the right time to go down to the cafe and grab herself something to eat. She'd finished pretty much everything that was urgent for the next couple of days, which meant she once again had the afternoon free to do whatever. Probably a bit more training. That tended to be her free time activity of choice these days - running laps, then running more laps. Wasn't like she had any better to do now that the twins were gone and she had no life outside of work.
After grabbing a bagel and two coffees, she didn't bother to sit down but took the lift back up to the office. To get to her own office, she had to go through the main part of the office. And as she was leaving earlier she'd seen Daniel hard at work. Daniel was her favourite colleague here, undoubtedly. The only other options were the new young ones or David, so it didn't really mean much, she supposed.
"I got you a coffee," she smiled, walking over to put it down on the desk. "How's it going?"

| Daniel had been overwhelmed with paperworks for the past week. There was always the damn paperworks. He had three draw full of them and a completed pile stacked neatly on the corner of his desk. He figured he'd get onto them and get as much as he could out of the way. Cases seem to pile up more than he could solve. For some reason clients seem to be more inclined to talk to him about their mishaps. Sighing, he leaned wearily into his chair, took off his glasses and rubbed the temple of his head. The sounds of thumping coming from his fellow co-worker in the next room hadn't help to alleviate his throbbing headache. On a normal day, he could put up with it, in fact it had become something he had grown accustomed to. The headache only made it ten times worse. He got up onto his feet and stormed into the other room. "Would you quit it!" he snapped, causing the poor guy to fall off his chair. "Thank you!" he said, slamming the door and sat back down in his office chair, grumbling.
Daniel didn't have much friends at work. Probably because he made a reputation of being Mr. Gumpy scrumpy. His co-workers knew well to keep out of his ways, unless it was of great importance or absolutely urgent (especially if he hadn't had his morning coffee). Speaking of coffee, he heard a familiar voice and looked up only to find Aisha standing at the door, placing a coffee on his desk. He managed to force a tired smile. "Thanks," he said, putting his glasses back on and took a small sip. "Going alright. I've got heap to catch up on, but other than that," he paused, looking down at his paperworks. "Seem to be a-okay," he let a small chuckle escaped his lips. He got along with Aisha, they grew up together and both attended the same school. Beside his best friend Varod, she was the rare few he could trust. They even went through Auror training together. They went through everything together, it would almost seem like it was impossible to separate them from each other. "And you?" he observed her expression. "You look like a horse hit you across the face," he said, jokingly and smirked.

| "Ugh," Aisha merely said, a look of disgust at the paperwork crossing her face. "I know how you feel. Is it just me or has the workload just shot up in the past week?" True, she'd got pretty much everything done but that was probably just her incredible efficiency and productivity. And staying late every night might have a little part in it. She really neded to get a life. But it was easier said than done for someone like Aisha, who wasn't the most sociable and tended to feel a sense of superiority over most of the people she met. Daniel was different, though. He was more... on her level of intelligence, one might put it. It might have been her hint to leave when he mentioned how busy he was, but that had never stopped her before. "Do you mind?" she asked, starting to pull a chair up. As beautiful as her face was, she imagined he could cope with the distraction.
Her? She didn't really know how she felt at the moment. In general, not so great. But the question probably didn't mean in general. "Great," she decided on. "Geez, thanks." She chuckled, shaking her head a little. Daniel should be head of the office here, not her. He was better than her with people skills. Probably. He was always nice enough to her. But maybe he was just comfortable around her since they'd known each other so long. Or maybe she was just overthinking things, like usual, and she just needed to drink this coffee, which would go cold if she didn't drink it quickly.

| Daniel looked around at all the paperwork on his desk and chuckled. "Hasn't it always been like this?" he raised an eyebrow at her. He remembered his days as a trainee and the amount of time when he had just finished all his paperworks only to have more put on top. Being an Auror has it perks, for example arresting criminals, solving crimes and reaping the rewards, but like any other job, it has has it flaws. Paperwork is never fun, but he didn't mind it and he had grown accustomed to it. It was only a small part of the job. Beside, not like he had anything better to do. He didn't have friends to hang out with, he lost all of them during the war and Aisha was probably just as unsociable as he was. He finished the last of his paperworks and looked up at Aisha. "Yeah, go right ahead. You don't have to ask," he said, gesturing to the chair.
Stacking his paperwork into a neat pile on his desk, he leaned back into his chair and sighed. "Just great?" he asked, raising an eyebrows at her. The moment she said 'Great' he felt something was amiss. Maybe it was the way she said it or he was just tired from all the paperwork he had done. Still he had to ask. Under all Daniel's darkness, cold and carelessness. He genuinely cared about the ones he loves and if they were upset, he would do anything to cheer them up. "What? I'm just saying. I probably look the same way too," he took his head and took a sip of his. "Ahhh thats the stuff," he said, savouring the hot coffee in his mouth. She knew exactly how she liked it, with chocolate and two sugars. |
