| Intending to get some spell practice done, Lyra left breakfast and went to the Middle Courtyard where it hopefully wouldn’t be too busy and it was acceptable to practice whatever spells she wanted. It was chilly outside so she was dressed warmly and carried a bag with her third-year spellbook (containing most spells she had mastered last year) and a book she had found in the library containing more advanced spells for later years. She was amazing, she could handle stuff that was supposed to be way too advanced for her. At some point, she wanted to practice non-verbal magic but she knew that was really advanced, so she would leave it for a while. For now, she could just master advanced spells verbally.
When she got there, she made her way to a corner where she probably wouldn’t be disturbed and put her bag down. She got out the spellbook and flicked through to find a good spell to practice. Ventus. It looked difficult, but practice made perfect, right? “Ventus!” she cast. It didn’t work. A couple of dull sparks erupted from her wand, but not a length of rope, like it should do. She tried again, to no success, and again. No. just a small fire at the end on her wand. Stupid. “Ventus,” she tried again, a little disheartened. Her wrist movement was different this time and it seemed to help. A tiny, thin piece of rope came from her wand, but she couldn’t control it. At least she was on the way to getting the spell right now. It was a fifth-year spell, after all. | |
