| Some may consider today a big day. Kota's mother certainly considered today a big day. Probably because it was Kota's mother who had pestered some old man long enough to get him here. To Kota, it wasn't a very big day at all. Just another ordinary day in a new place. His heavy footsteps thudded against the dirt as he made his way along the path. He wasn't hunting at the moment, so there was no need to tread lightly. His eyes skimmed his surroundings a bit skeptically, finally coming to land on his destination - a large, round hut-like structure just at the edge of the treeline. The hut was wooden and poorly built and primitive - and exactly the kind of place that suited Kota! After entering the castle, he'd been afraid that his quarters would be far too civilized. But this - this hut would do just fine. A pleasant surprise.
Reaching up to push his fur hood back off of his head, Kota clomped up the stairs and pushed the door open, letting himself inside. The place was in tatters, and the furniture that was in tact was at least three times too big for any human. What had lived here before? It didn't matter. Kota would chop the big furniture up and use it for firewood, and then build his own, properly sized furniture. For now, he just dropped his single bag on the ground, where it sent up a huge dust cloud, and looked around the inside of the hut more carefully. There were huge chairs, a stove with an old, dented teapot sitting on it, and a big fireplace. Yes, this would be perfect for Kota.
Kota had been told that the Hogwarts Groundskeeper - which was him now - wasn't very closely observed. He'd been told that there was no real pressure to complete his job. But Kota was not the type of man to accept a job and then not complete it. So, as soon as he was settled, he would get straight to work. But first, he had to get his things in order. He would have to gather some firewood for the fireplace, first of all. Of course, most people would just conjure up a fire with their wand. But most people weren't squibs, like Kota was. Kota couldn't do magic. So he had to gather firewood with his own two hands - a skill that magic had probably deemed unnecessary long ago in this place.
Not bothering to empty his bag - there was hardly anything in it anyway - Kota stepped out of the front door and lowered himself to sit on one of the broad steps leading up to the hut. He shrugged his most prized possession - his crossbow - off of his shoulder and began to inspect it. The most important matter of business was, as always, making sure that his weapon was in proper shape. There was nothing more important to Kota than his crossbow, and everything else could wait.

| Vanessa stromed across the cobble stone path from the castle to the dark forest. She was muttering in italian about what a complete waste of time this school was for her. She hated it here and she hated almost everyone around her. "Odio questa scuola e tutti in esso. Non vedo l'ora di usceri di qui."
She growled to herself and her hands soon became clenched into fists. Her Slytherin green silk scarf blew around her as she ran against the roaring winds of the cold winter. As she was running past the groundskeepers hut, she slammed right into someone. He was bigger than her, taller than her, and definitely scarier than her. But she did not let her fear show.
She stared at the man, her eyes blank, her cheeks flushed and her lips pursed in a solid line. She did not back down and she did not apologize. She probably should, seeing as she ran into him, but she didnt. She wondered who he was, she hadnt seen him around before. She stood straight, her nose pointed towards the sky, "Who are you?"

| To Kota's surprise, his first ten minutes at Hogwarts castle were relatively pleasant. Not that pleasant was something that he required. He wasn't like most people. Pleasant things and money and company were as foreign to him as this country. All useless things that were nothing but a waste of focus. Kota didn't need any of them. Kota needed only three things - Food, his crossbow, and Atka. Speaking of, where was she? His eyes instantly trained on the line of trees that faded into the forest and he frowned. Atka could care for herself, but she wasn't used to the mysterious creatures that could lie within this forest. After a moment of hesitation, he whistled loudly. As the sound drifted through the trees, he returned his gaze to his crossbow, feeling much less concerned.
Of course, the pleasant solitude that Kota had been left in for a short time couldn't last. He didn't lift his gaze, but listened adeptly as he heard footsteps nearing him. Kota didn't have to look to know that it was a girl - or a very skinny boy. After flipping his crossbow over to inspect the other end of it more closely, he glanced up to see who it was. His expression remained blank as he took in a young girl heading his way. As in, literally, right his way. Maybe somebody else would have called out to her, or told her to look out - she obviously wasn't paying attention to where she was going. Her feet were clumsy as she ran. But Kota said nothing as she approached, and did nothing but stare at her uninterestedly as she ran into him. Literally, right into him. He hardly felt it. She was like a fly. Hopefully she was less annoying than a fly.
But apparently not. She had too much emotion. Her accent irked him as all of these foreign accents did in this country. Then, the girl spoke to him, asking who he was. She asked it rudely, but since Kota was not one to dwell on manners, he didn't notice. Instead, he replied simply. "Kota." Then, Kota's eyes flicked back toward the treeline as he saw something moving there. Ah, it was about time. His gaze followed Atka as the huge Malamute came loping toward him. Her snowy white coat was horribly white against the green and brown surroundings. In Alaska, she'd blended so beautifully into the snow, and now - well, hopefully camouflage wouldn't be necessary here. The dog ran straight to him, and Kota thought she might have knocked into the girl on the way. He didn't care if she did. He also didn't care if she didn't. He simply nodded to the dog as she came to sit quietly beside him. "Stay here, Atka," he commanded, before going back to inspecting his weapon.
