Flying with Friends (Anthony & Kynan)

Maya hoisted her broomstick over her shoulder, wondering if she should wear some of her quidditch gear. It wasn't like she was having a proper practise session with Kynan, but she hadn't seen him flying since second year. And although he was a very good and natural flyer she didn't know if she trusted his beater abilities. He was prone to zoning out and got distracted very easily. Deciding to leave her quidditch helmet behind, Maya grabbed a pair of gloves to protect her hands from the crisp air and made her way across the grounds towards the quidditch pitch.

The conditions couldn't have been more ideal for flying and a smile formed on Maya's face at the thought of getting to spend the day with her good friend, Kynan. She hadn't seen him much since their arrival and when she had there was always someone else around, either in class or on the corridors. Some alone time with him would be nice, at this thought a surge of happiness coursed through Maya and she couldn't stay grounded anymore. She jumped on her broom and soured through the sky, concentrating her new found energy into flying as she waited for Kynan to arrive.

Hogwarts sucked. As in, it was the worst place that Anthony had ever been in. It was obnoxiously huge, with trick stairs and other annoying things that got in his way. And it was cold. Even when it was warm outside, it was cold - at least when compared to Brazil, which was probably about eighty degrees right now. But still, it wasn't freezing outside at the moment, and Anthony didn't really feel like sulking in his dormitory for the sixth day in a row, so he quickly decided to grab his broomstick and head down to the Quidditch Pitch.

Rummaging in his trunk, Anthony emerged with his beater's bat and a case of quidditch balls, snatched his broom from near his bed, and hurried from the common room. It was really annoying that Gryffindor's common room was about a billion floors from the grounds. If he could fit, he would have just opened his window and flown to the Pitch from there. But the windows were too small - probably to prevent people from doing just that. Stupid school. The moment he emerged onto the grounds, he felt his tension subside just a little bit. The fresh air made him feel a bit less trapped - although it was just an illusion. He was still trapped.

His hand gripped the bat tightly as he crossed the grounds - Anthony played keeper normally, but letting out his frustration on a few bludgers was just too tempting at the moment. As he stepped out onto the pitch, he realized that he wasn't the only one there. Of course, he thought irritably to himself. There was a redheaded girl zooming about above him. He recognized her because she was in his year. He didn't know her name because he didn't care.

Deciding to just ignore her, he released a bludger from his case, threw a leg over his broom and pushed off. Maybe he should warn the girl that a bludger was now hurdling around the pitch... no, why bother? If she couldn't handle flying with a bludger present then she shouldn't be flying at all. The light breeze that blew against his face as he flew brought him some comfort. He accelerated forward toward where the bludger had flown off to, ignoring the redhead as he passed her. The heavy black ball was soon heading toward him, and his muscles instantly tensed. His arm swung back and his bat collided with the bludger with much more force than would ever be necessary. It shot away from him, and releasing some of his frustration on the bludger made Anthony feel a little bit better. It took a few moments before the ball rounded on him again. Winding up, Anthony whacked it just as unnecessarily hard - but unfortunately, his pent up anger was throwing off his aim, and the heavy ball was now hurtling in the direction of the red head. Shit. "Watch out!" he called across the pitch. Hopefully she'd just dodge it - he really didn't want to have to try to catch her if she fell off her broom. Or have to walk her up to the hospital wing or some other rubbish if she broke her arm.

Maya was flying around at an easy pace now, enjoying the breeze on her face and wondering if Kynan had slept on. It wouldn't be he first time. But she wasn't allowed enjoy it for long as she heard someone calling out to her but the loud wind ringing in her ears stopped her from hearing the specifics. Her instincts kicked in and she quickened her pace when she heard the familiar sound of a swirling bludger flying through the air. “What the hell?” she muttered to herself, not getting a chance to see who culprit was as she heard a whooshing noise by her left ear and she had to do an acrobatic tumble on her broom to dodge the bludger. And judging by her hair ruffling with the rushing effect of the bludger flying right past her it appeared she had managed to do so just in time. Maya was clinging to her broom, fascinated that she had even managed to stay on it, never mind airborne. Maya looked up, anger fueling through her. Who would do that? She looked up and recognised the culprit, that stupid, stubborn and sulky guy that had just appeared in her class one day. She heard he was a permanent foreign exchange student, but nothing else as he never seemed to talk. She didn't even know where he was from. Well wherever it was, did they never apologize there? He was just glaring at her, he was the one to fire a bludger in her direction!

Maya nose-dived her broom in the direction of the boy, halting right in front of him. He was big and stocky in build, but she squared up to him showing no fear. Well, as best she could manage on a broom. "Are you mad? You could have nearly knocked me off my broom?" If I wasn't so good at flying, Maya had never fallen off her broom. "You do know it is common courtesy to announce that your going to be playing on the pitch?" She asked, trying not to let her anger get the better of her and let her voice raise. This guy just appeared like he didn't care and was really getting on her nerves. "Anyway, I have the pitch booked for the morning." Well that was a lie, you were only allowed to book it for team practices, but she hoped he was too new to know that. Anyway, Maya couldn't have someone around that was liable to attack her again. He was jealous of her flying capabilities, that was the only explanation she could come up with. Why else would anyone, unprovoked try and hit someone with a leather ball that flew over 100 miles an hour. He must have been thinking about trying out for the Gryffindor team or something and wanted to get one up on Slytherin by knocking out one of their star players. Maya glared at the boy as the idea formed in her head.
