1. What is the spell's incantation (Incendio) etymology? In Latin, incendio can mean “to fire”, “for fire”, “by fire” or “with fire”. The incantation is a way of calling fire to the wizard’s chosen object. Incendio is also the Spanish and Portugese word for “fire”. In Italian the word means a great fire, like one of which can be made by a powerful wizard with a variation of this spell. "Incendio” is a singular of the present of the Spanish verb "incendiar", which means "to set fire to".
2. Name other spells which have similar effects to the Fire-Making Spell. The Bluebell Flames spell is similar. When cast, the spell creates a flame like Incendio does but the Bluebell Flames spell creates an harmless blue fire which will not hurt anyone who touches it, though it is known to burn objects such as clothes. The jet of flame produced only radiates heat to an object directly above it.
3. Name a few known practitioners of the spell. Hermione Granger and Harry Potter—they both used this spell to try and destroy the locket of Salazar Slytherin. Arthur Weasley—he used it to start a fire in the fireplace at the Dursley’s which terrified the family. Thorfin Rowle—he used the Incendio to set fire to Hagrid’s Hut.
BONUS. In which situations can the spell come in handy? This spell can be used to light a household appliance or a candle, along with other practical uses which involve lighting a fire. Also, if you’re a super evil wizard it’d probably be something you use on a daily basis to set fire to everything because that’s what evil people do all the time. And also if you didn’t like you’re sofa, you could just burn it to make room for another one. I decided to change that answer to keeping warm, by lighting a fire or something.
