| Nina walked up the stairs to the common room for what would be the last time. She couldn't believe what she and Sarah were doing. Their birth father had found them and offered to take them in to get to know them better in FIGI. And the twins talked it over themselves, and they agreed. It hurt them to leave Hogwarts, their friends, their surroundings, and most of all Aisha, but this was their BIRTH FATHER. The man they hadn't known for their entire lives. And now, Nina was about to break it to her best friend in the entire world, Ariel.
She was almost in tears when she reached the dormitory. How could she tell her? She couldn't be insensitive about it, so she would break it gently that she was leaving. She knew she would make new friends. Being at Hogwarts proved that to her. Being at Hogwarts proved A LOT of things to her. That Sarah didn't need her to baby sit her every move, that she would be ok on her own, and that she was magical, and could do a lot of things with a flick of her wand.
She had to start packing to go to her new home. She knew Ariel would be up here as well, because she also had to pack to go home for Christmas. But she knew that Ariel would be leaving some things behind, but she wouldn't be. She opened the door to her, Lyra, and Ariel's room and went straight to her bed and put her trunk on it. She turned around to see Ariel packing as well. She said, "I need to talk to you..."
And the tears came. She tried to hold them in, but she just couldn't. Why did saying goodbye have to be so hard? |

| Going home for Christmas was not something Ariel was looking forward to. She imagined she'd be spending a lot of time in her own room, or up in Darcy's room with the window. It was a year since they learned that their father was sick. And now they were spending Christmas without him. Ariel slowly started folding her clothes and putting them in her trunk. She barely noticed what she was doing, and her arms went on in a robot-like way.
One thing was certain, though; she was glad she'd told Hunter one month or so back. She had been feeling lighter, and it was better to be around friends when he was there. She should probably have told more than just him, like Nina and Blake, for example, but she'd never had the right opportunity. In addition, she wasn't sure how they'd treat her, should she tell them. Hunter was one thing, because even with him knowing, he didn't treat her like broken glass, the way Darcy had told her that her muggle friends did.
Continuing on with the packing, Ariel didn't notice when Nina walked into the room. She just continued packing. But then Nina was talking to her. Ariel jumped in the slightest, but smiled and instantly grew curious as to what it was that Nina had to say. And then she started crying. Ariel felt horrified for a moment and walked over to her friend. Worry washed over her. What was going on?
Ariel put a hand on Nina's shoulder, squeezing it a bit. "What's wrong?" she asked, feeling anxious to hear the answer, wondering if she even wanted to know. Seeing Nina cry was dis-heartening and a weird pit in her stomach was making weird turns and making her feel almost nauseas. She did not like to see her friend in this state. She put her other hand on Nina's other shoulder, trying to steady her, but didn't hug her yet. Hugs didn't work when emotional. Not before they got to tell what the story was. Hugs came after the story. | |
